Hardware for openings where a ledge is a hazard
In behavioral health units, patient rooms, group homes, and anywhere else a ligature risk assessment drives the hardware specification, ordinary door hardware becomes the problem. A conventional magnetic lock bracket leaves a flat horizontal ledge above the lock, exposed fastener heads standing proud of the surface, and gaps at the frame — every one of which can serve as an anchor point.
Anti-ligature hardware removes those features. Sloped surfaces in place of ledges. Countersunk fasteners that finish flush with or below the surface. No protruding hardware and nothing that will hold a load.
What we build
Rack IT designs and machines anti-ligature mounting hardware in the United States, cut from solid aluminum rather than folded from sheet.
Our first product is the ALM-M82, a sloped header mount for the Securitron M82 and M82BD magnetic locks. It replaces the standard bracket on a locked opening, and it solves a second problem at the same time — shallow and obstructed door headers where a conventional M82 bracket will not physically fit.
Specifying and installing
Every product ships with an installation sheet that includes the mounting hole pattern. Dimensioned submittal drawings are available on request for specifiers, architects and integrators — email sales@rackit.com.
Anti-ligature hardware does not change egress requirements. Free egress on fire alarm, sprinkler activation and loss of power, along with any delayed or controlled egress provisions, still has to be confirmed with the authority having jurisdiction for each opening.
